STATE OF MICHIGAN invites applications for the position of: Senior Executive Psychiatrist Director 21 An Equal Opportunity Employer The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) is offering the position of Chief Psychiatric Officer (CPO) to qualified candidates. As a member of the MDOC leadership team the CPO will use the theories, principles and concepts from the Correctional Mental Health Code and behavioral health science to clinically oversee, manage, and administer the MDOC behavioral health programs. Develop and implement strategies to improve mental health status of the MDOC prison population in accordance with the BHCS five year plan. Provide clinical leadership to improve behavioral health outcomes by introducing innovative, evidence based approaches to the behavioral health care delivery systems consistent with community standards of care. Design a collaborative Reentry behavioral health model, focusing on high risk prisoners paroling or discharging with mental illness. Identify potential areas of clinical improvement and develop/implement strategies to address those areas. Working with the MDOC Mental Health Director will direct and oversee the activities of the Corrections Mental Health Program (CMHP) which provides behavioral health services to the MDOC prisoner population. Required Education and Experience Possession of a medical degree from an accredited school of medicine. Experience Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Psychiatrist in a mental health facility or clinic, including two years equivalent to a Psychiatrist Manager 19, or one year equivalent to a Psychiatrist Director 20. Additional Requirements and Information Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certifications Michigan licensure to practice medicine or osteopathic medicine and surgery in good standing. All positions require board certification in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Inc. Positions in children's psychiatric hospitals require board certification in child and adolescent psychiatry. Unrestricted Michigan Board of Pharmacy license to prescribe level two through five controlled substances. Unrestricted U.S.D.E.A registration to prescribe schedule two through five controlled substances.
