VCU VIRGINA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY The Children's Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at Virginia Commonwealth University is embarking on a major expansion program, growing from 3 full-time pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology physicians to a division of 6. We are recruiting an experienced and visionary leader to be the Roderick Mathews Endowed Chair and Division Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Candidates must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (tenure eligible), be Board Certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology, and have leadership experience in an academic setting. A well-developed research portfolio with external funding to complement and expand existing expertise is highly desirable and resources will be made available to support research development. The Matthews Chair will also have the opportunity to recruit a full-time transplant hepatologist and an additional junior faculty member. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. There are significant resources to support the academic mission and research interests including startup packages and collaboration with the Internal Medicine Gastroenterology and Hepatology division. The division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology is active in clinical care, clinical and basic research. The division is a member of Improve Care Now and there are established programs in IBD and eosinophilic esophagitis, as well as a dedicated endoscopy suite with anesthesia support. There is a strong collaboration with Internal Medicine Gastroenterology and Hepatology as well as Surgical Transplantation. Richmond is a comfortable city of 1.2 million. VCU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in Virginia, the only academic medical center in Richmond and CHoR is the only full service academic pediatric hospital in Central Virginia.
