Applications are invited for

Director, Hamilton Center for Cardiovascular Health

Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) is looking for an accomplished, dynamic, innovative individual to assume the position of inaugural Director of the newly created Hamilton Centre for Cardiovascular Health (HCCVH). With the support of the hospital administration, five successful independent physician/surgeon groups (i.e. Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Stroke and Thrombosis,) have decided to merge under a common structure.  The HCCVH will allow HHS to transform cardiovascular care, training, and research and expand its impact as a world leader in cardiovascular health.  We are looking for a transformative leader with vision and an established track record as a successful senior healthcare leader.

The Director of the HCCVH will lead the establishment of the administrative structure, set priorities and strategic directions, facilitate fund raising, and act as the spokesperson for the HCCVH.  The Director will champion innovative care models across the 5 physician/surgeon groups, promote and support research, and in collaboration with McMaster University, develop and implement novel integrated training opportunities for physicians.

The HCCVH Director will report to the VP Adult Regional Care. The Hamilton General based Physician/Surgeon service leads will report to the HCCVH Director. The HCCVH Director will work in partnership with these Physician/Surgeon leads and the Administrative Directors of the Cardiac and Vascular Program and the Neurosciences Program to develop and lead the HCCVH.

Applicants must be an established cardiologist, cardiac surgeon, stroke specialist, thrombosis specialist, or vascular surgeon.  Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the province of Ontario through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Individuals with a strong track record in establishing successful interdisciplinary programs or mergers of physician/surgeon groups are encouraged to apply for this exciting opportunity.

This position will require the equivalence of approximately 20 hours per week, however, the activity will vary depending on work priorities.  The Director of the HCCVH would also be expected to spend a portion of their time working in clinical care at Hamilton Health Sciences.  The successful applicant will receive a competitive salary.

Interested individuals should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and the names of three references to:

Teresa Smith, Vice President, Adult Regional Care, Hamilton Health Sciences

The letter of application should outline the applicant’s experience in senior leadership roles, explicit examples of how they have facilitated transformative change, present their vision for the HCCVH, their perception of the challenges and opportunities confronting the HCCVH, why they are the right person for the position, and anything else the applicant believes is relevant.

Deadline date for receipt of applications is Oct 23rd, 2017.
