Virginia Commonwealth University

Center for Advanced Health Management

Clinician Educator

Position Description:

Led by Dr. Peter Boling, the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the Virginia Commonwealth University supports a large health program that cares for many adult patients with advanced chronic illness. In 2014, the Division underwent an expansion and opened the new VCU Center for Advanced Health Management (CAHM) to provide a continuum of comprehensive, holistic care for complex younger adult and geriatric patients alike. The Division seeks a new generalist clinician educator, at the rank of Assistant Professor, to serve as a primary physician in CAHM's complex care clinic caring for chronically ill adults, typically under age 65. The Division works to manage patients across the continuum, favoring value over volume, in partnership with payers. All Division providers work in teams with nurse practitioners, social workers, nurses and pharmacists. Existing staff is comprised of 10 physicians, 16 nurse practitioners, 4 social workers, 9 nurses, and a pharmacist. Learners include students from medicine, nursing, pharmacy, social work, residents, and geriatric fellows. Research activities depend on skills and interest.

The Division of Geriatric Medicine seeks a clinician educator with excellent clinical and teaching skills, and dedication to advancing the academic program. Candidates must be Board Certified /Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Practice. Candidates must also possess/maintain a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Virginia. Candidates must demonstrate experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
