Chair, Department of Head and Neck Surgery

The University of California, Los Angeles invites applications and nominations for the positions of Chair of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery and full-time Tenured Professor, to succeed Dr. Gerald Berke who will be stepping down after serving as founding chair and a distinguished leader for more than two decades at UCLA.

Ranked 4th in U.S. News and World Report, the UCLA Department of Head and Neck Surgery is at the forefront of research, education, and patient care.  The department established the first Voice Center on the West Coast, and is known as the destination center for cochlear implantation.  With a nationally recognized residency program and a deep commitment to basic science and clinical research, the department seeks a Chair with an outstanding academic and clinical background who will be able to provide strategic leadership and continue to advance the mission, operations, and service of the Department within the School of Medicine, as well as within the greater Los Angeles community and Southern California region.

Candidates must have an MD or MD/PhD, be board-certified, possess academic credentials appropriate for a tenured faculty appointment, and be eligible for licensure in California.  The ideal candidate will be a recognized academic leader with excellent clinical expertise, a highly collaborative style with a vision for integration and cross-collaborative initiatives within the school of medicine and beyond, proven leadership and management skills, a demonstrated commitment to scholarship and diversity, experience in mentoring junior faculty, and a strong record of funded research.

The review of applications, nominations, and expressions of interest will begin immediately and continue until an appointment is made.  All materials submitted will be considered in strict confidence by the Search Advisory Committee, chaired by Dr. Michael Steinberg.

Interested candidates should submit, in electronic form (Microsoft Word or PDF files preferred), a curriculum vitae, a bullet point summary outlining leadership/administrative experience and accomplishments, innovation and/or interdisciplinary collaborations, publication highlights, extramural grant funding, involvement in medical education and mentorship, examples of demonstrated commitment to scholarship and diversity, fundraising experience, and any supporting materials that they deem relevant to:
