Applications are invited for the position of Associate Director, Mississippi Center for Obesity Research (MCOR). The academic appointment of the successful candidate will be in the Department of Physiology & Biophysics or in a clinical department at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), depending on qualifications and research interests. Clinical faculty must devote at least 50% effort toward research. Applicants will be considered for ranks of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor and must have a PhD, MD, or comparable degree with appropriate postdoctoral research experience.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, and a record of innovative accomplishments in basic, clinical or population research related to nutrition, obesity and/or related cardiovascular, renal or metabolic diseases. Candidates are expected to have substantial publications in leading journals, extramural research funding, and a well-defined research vision. A highly competitive salary and excellent start-up package will be provided.

The MCOR is a multidisciplinary research initiative at UMMC and is leading a state-wide effort to translate research results into programs that prevent and more effectively treat obesity and related metabolic diseases. The MCOR offers outstanding core facilities and generous laboratory space in the new state-of-the-art Arthur C. Guyton Research Center. UMMC has a large, diverse patient population and is the home of the Jackson Heart Study, an NIH-sponsored study of risk factors for cardiovascular, renal and metabolic disease in >5300 African Americans. There is a large group of prominent, NIH-funded researchers working in the area of obesity-associated cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases who offer excellent opportunities for collaboration.
