Job Details

Academic Gastroenterology  - PhD position in diagnostic device development with Nobel Laureate, Prof Barry Marshall

The University of Western Australia

PhD candidate for 2018

Join Prof Barry Marshall and his team at UWA on their project to develop an acoustic belt that records gut noises over time so doctors can accurately screen, diagnose and monitor gut disorders and diseases.

We will support the ideal candidate in their application for an International Research Training Program Scholarship and the Penfold Family Marshall Centre PhD Top-Up Scholarship.

The top-up scholarship will be awarded to the most outstanding candidate, medically trained or trained in health sciences with an interest in gastrointestinal disorders and/or the development and testing of diagnostic devices.

Suitable candidates will have a background in gastroenterology, especially functional gastrointestinal disorders and/or an understanding of clinical trial design.

An understanding of statistical measures of the validity and reliability of diagnostic and screening tests would be highly valuable.

Professor Barry Marshall is the academic lead on the project. You can chat to him about the project at his DDW Poster Session on  Monday 8 May from 12:00 to 14:00 (Poster Mo1150).  Further enquiries should be addressed to Dr Mary Webberley, Project Manager of the Noisy Guts Project, prior to submission of a formal application.
